Do you have a list of home projects that you would like to complete? I know that my list is growing as I write this blog post. Summer is a great time to prioritize the tasks and start tackling each project. With the longer days, we have a bit more time to work on tasks that we may have been putting off for some time.

Over the weekend, Aaron and I updated our entry way. Our update included;

  • Prepping and painting the interior and exterior of our front door with Valspar paint color Encore. I recommend the interior + exterior semi-gloss.

  • Replaced the hardware on the door

  • Replaced the doormat

  • Added a new pot and Snake plant

We ended up working on this project when it was 115’, but at least the weather helped dry the paint quickly. I only made three trips to Lowe’s, LOL! I must say it was a fun project and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Projects on my Mind

Completing this little DIY project has me inspired to work on other areas of our home. I am not putting a timeline to these projects just yet, but am looking forward to making more improvements to our home.

  • Paint my oldest daughter’s room

  • Update kitchen stove

  • Paint kitchen cabinets

  • Replace living room window coverings

  • Clean out the garage (and have a garage sale)

  • Clean out our craft closet

  • Replace a few plants in our front yard and add additional river rock

  • Replace/update kitchen table

  • Update flooring

Budget Friendly Upgrades

Consider part of your monthly budget going to home projects. Some tasks are going to be more reasonable than others. At one time or another, there will be an unexpected update you have to make in a more timely manner. Last week our refrigerator went out. On the good side, we have a new refrigerator and I appreciate it more than I thought I would! It also has made me love my kitchen a bit more. I am inspired to keep plugging along and making updates to our house.

A few budget friendly ways to upgrade your home are listed below.

  • Painting is a reasonable way to update furniture and cabinets in your home. Get wild and choose a bold color! The nice thing about paint is that it isn’t permanent.

  • Shop at thrift stores and/or garage sales for furniture and then paint to make it to your liking

  • Add wallpaper to a bathroom or laundry room

  • Update art

  • Replace light fixtures

  • Install open shelving in your kitchen

It’s amazing what a person can do on their own when it comes to updating their home. With the help of a Pinterest board and YouTube videos you can really do anything! Budget friendly upgrades can really make a difference and allow you to appreciate your home that much more.
