Slow Sundays

I am not sure about your household, but for us, Sundays call for good cooking and football. Football season seems to be a reason to start cooking chili, even if it’s still over 100’ in Arizona. Chili and football seem to go hand in hand.

To kickoff the first week of the NFL season we hosted a chili cook-off.

I adapted this recipe from Pinch of Yum. I added a green bell pepper and used Kidney and Pinto beans to round out the recipe. I must say this is a great take on a classic red chili.

Host a Chili Competition

  • Determine a date and time for your gathering.

  • Invite friends and family over for a casual afternoon to watch football. Let them know that they are welcome to participate in a chili competition.

  • The day of the event, make your chili, toppings for the chili, and dessert.

  • Print out these voting cards from Etsy.

  • Create signage for the chili competitors.

  • Enjoy chili and watch some football!

Some delicious toppings to have for your chili competition include avocado, Fritos, shredded cheese and sour cream.

Making a few sides for your gathering is always a good idea. We baked cornbread and baked potatoes. Some guests love chili on potatoes!

A chili cook-off is a great reason to gather with those that you enjoy spending time with. Have some fun and make the most of those slow Sundays that we all appreciate so much!
