Back to School

We have all been reading and hearing a lot of information about kids beginning school. While we all may have different views on what’s best for our kids, staff and families, the school year has now arrived.

Many schools are offering remote and exclusive online learning options for students. Our kids belong to a school district that will begin online and then when deemed safe, students may return to campus if they wish.

Our kids have been away from campus since March 16, 2019. They are pretty flexible kids and held their own during the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year when school suddenly switched to a virtual setting.

It’s extremely important to me that my kiddos begin this year on a positive note and are well prepared. We’re doing our part at home to make sure they have all that they need for a successful start to 3rd & 6th grades..

Our kids each have a desk and quiet area in their bedrooms away from distractions to complete their school work. School supplies have been purchased and organized. The iPads are charged and ready to go with educational apps.

School Supplies

As a former teacher, I absolutely LOVE purchasing school supplies! Check out the items I purchased to get the kids prepared for remote learning.

  • A new addition to keep the girls organized is a whiteboard calendar. They can each keep track of due dates, notes and any other important dates on their own calendar. I hope that by them keeping track of events, it will also bring more independence (You know I’m all about raising independent girls!) and accountability. They have pinned their Zoom schedules to the cork board portion of the board.

  • The girls both had desks, but it was time to replace Lillian’s desk for one with a larger table top. Her previous desk was an old school desk with the seat attached. I loved the look of the desk, but now it just isn’t as practical. I ordered this desk and chair from Wayfair.

  • I picked up $3 bins from Target to keep school supplies organized.

  • I highly recommend a rolling utility cart to keep the overflow school supplies organized. Whether the cart holds pencils and craft supplies or books and notebooks, it will help keep materials organized. I love that the cart has wheels, so when needed it can be moved.

  • A first day of school gift for kids with a few of their favorite things is always fun to start the school year off just right. I’ve included books, Expo markers, Post-Its and a note to get them started on the right foot.

While the start to the school year definitely looks different, I am confident that this will be a good year for my kids. Believe me, I’ve had a lot of emotions throughout the summer when it came to my children’ education. I know that I need to stay informed (on all levels), continue to take an active role in their learning and to be their advocate to ensure that they continue to get a great education.

I wish you and your family positive vibes through this transition and know that we can do it!
