A Restaurant with a Twist: Crouse's Flat Top Grill

If you are looking for a locally owned restaurant that puts a twist on everyday favorites, Crouse’s Flat Top Grill is the restaurant for you. A father and son duo turned a food truck idea into an eatery.

In January of 2016, Crouse’s Flat Top Grill opened its doors in Yuma, Arizona. This family owned and operated restaurant has since shared with customers fabulous food and fun. Cory and Randy Crouse have created a menu full of flavor and it's one that you won’t forget.

We sat down with Cory for an evening, to taste several items from their menu. While we have been going to Crouse’s since they opened, it was fantastic to have Cory hand select the items off of the menu that he wanted us to try.

Let me tell you all about the great food that we sampled. You’ll need to order these items on your next visit to Crouse’s!

Starters

Fried Green Tomatoes - The fried green tomatoes are sliced to order and are drizzled with balsamic. They are served with a pimento cheese sauce that will definitely wake up your taste buds!

Onion Rings - The onion rings are flavorful and come with two dipping sauces, ranch and barbeque. The rings work well as an appetizer or as a side to a sandwich or burger. These onion rings are delicious!

Meals

Cauliflower Pizza - Everyone is looking for the gluten-free options these days, and guess what I’ve found a tasty choice for you! Help yourself to the Crouse’s cauliflower pizza. This is a great meal choice if you are looking for a lighter option. The tomatoes and garlic are smoked to give the pizza even more flavor.

Pork Belly Pastrami Sandwich -  Randy and Cory had been spending time in the kitchen experimenting with new options for the menu. They were throwing around a few ideas when  Randy came up with the idea of putting the pork belly with the pastrami to create this menu item.

There is a lot of planning that goes into this incredible sandwich! The pork is brined for 2 weeks, then smoked for 6-8 hours. The sandwich has a horseradish spread, beer braised onions, swiss cheese and the house slaw. The combination of the slaw, horseradish and meat is right on.

Holy Hog Sandwich - My husband loves this sandwich! If I’m lucky, I sneak in a bite or two when he’s not looking. This Cubano inspired sandwich is quite popular with Crouse’s customers. This is meal has a ton of flavor! The sandwich consists of  smoked pork belly with pepper jack cheese, jalapeno mustard and pickled chips, served with bacon jam. And yes, if you’re wondering, the bacon jam is AMAZING! The sweet jam compliments the spicy flavors in the sandwich. Everyone in our group couldn’t get over all of the tastiness in this sandwich.

Short Belly Ribs- Ribs tend to be on many menus, but if you are a rib lover, you’ll need to order these when you stop in at the restaurant. The ribs are large and are covered in raspberry chipotle sauce.

If you are stopping in for happy hour, Crouse’s offers a full bar with a rotating selection of beers that are top notch. Arizona breweries are often featured. The staff is always knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to helping you select the best beverage to match your preferences.

A few of my personal favorites on the menu-

  • The tacos are on the top of the list of items that I order at Crouse’s. The chicken or salmon tacos are what I happen to order the most often. The salmon tacos are only offered on Friday’s so make sure you stop by and don’t miss out on this weekly special!  The tacos are served with a delicious slaw that is full of fresh ingredients! You also have the option of corn or flour tortillas for your tacos.

  • If you are looking for a lighter dish, order one of the beautiful salads on the menu. You can’t go wrong with the Caesar salad. You have the option to order a half salad for a smaller portion.

When you go to Crouse’s you better come with an appetite, the portions are large and the food is tasty!

While the restaurant has incredible pulled pork, tacos and tri-tip, I am so happy we were able to explore so much more of the menu. If you are visiting and only have one opportunity to eat at Crouse’s, Cory recommends ordering the pulled pork sandwich.

I look forward to my next visit to Crouse’s and can’t wait to order another amazing dish!
