Start Planning for Labor Day Weekend
Many of us mark the end of summer with Labor Day weekend and guess what it is almost here! This is a good excuse to plan a fun activity or two. I love to take advantage of a 3-day weekend! This year, we will be staying in town and I plan on enjoying every minute of the long weekend with my family.
Ways to Enjoy Labor Day Weekend
Float the Colorado River - This has to be my favorite activities to do over Labor Day weekend. There is nothing like a relaxing day on the river. It’s fun and the water is refreshing!
You can book a trip through Yuma River Tubing, which costs $25 (+tax) per person for the 5 mile float.
When we don’t use yuma River Tubing, we venture out on our own, leaving one vehicle at the end and another at the starting point. It is always a bonus if you have someone that can drop off and pick you up. I recomend starting at Shit’s Creek and floating to West Wetlands Park. This float takes about 3 - 3 1/2 hours. You can stop anywhere along the way and extend your time on the river.
Don’t forget to bring along these essentials-
Make sure everyone in your party has something to float on, is it an inner tube or paddle board? Here are a few of my favorites items to take with you during the float.
Pack a cooler with your favorite snacks and drinks. Ice down your drinks well before the float so they are nice and cold during your river trip.
Bring rope so you can tie inner tubes together.
Have a separate inner tube for your ice chest.
It’s helpful to bring a paddle so you can steer your way when needed. This is especially helpful when you start at Shit’s Creek and again when getting to the exit point at West Wetlands.
Host a BBQ - Invite a few friends over and enjoy entertaining the group! Put out a few yard games, plan a simple and delicious menu and you’re ready to go!
Menu Ideas
Main - Hamburgers Sides - green salad & sliced fruit Dessert - Ice cream sandwiches
Main - BBQ chicken sandwiches Sides - corn on the cob, beans Dessert - S’mores
Main - Taco Bar that allows guests to make their own tacos. Select a protein or two and toppings Sides - Elote, beans, rice Dessert - Churros
Visit Lake Pleasant - Drive to Peoria, Arizona to spend a day at Lake Pleasant. You can plan on a full day of enjoying the water activities. Make the most of the day by renting a boat, jet skis and even going down giant waterslides! The age requirement to go on the waterslides is 7 years old. Tickets are $40/ person per hour on the weekends. You can save $5 per person when you go during the week. 1/2 day and full day ticket options are also available and are the best deal if you plan to go down the water slides several times.
Plan a simple activity and you’ll be so happy you did. Enjoy the extended weekend!
