The Music Jar

I love music! Whether it’s listening to live music, singing to my favorite jam in the car or having a dance party in our living room we find time to make music a large part of our lives. At times I feel that I listen to the same music often. It’s time to change it up a bit, mix a little old with the new.

Thanks to Elsie from A Beautiful Mess for the inspiration with the music jar. Each Monday in 2020, we’ll be selecting an artist from the music jar and we will be listening to that musician throughout the week. While we will still listen to other musicians, the artist hand-picked that week will be the main music. Our kids are exposed to many genres, but this will give them an opportunity to listen to more music by artists and be a little more well versed.

Join in the fun and make your own music jar this year. All you need is a jar, pen and strips of paper. Cut the strips of paper into 52 pieces, one for each week of the year. Jot down one artist or group on each piece of paper and add it to the jar. Select a day to pull out an artist’s name from the jar. Type in the musician’s name into Spotify and get to listening.

Take a look at the musicians we’ll be listening to throughout 2020. This list consists of some of our favorites, mixed in with some classics along with a representation of music over the years.
