The Book Club 2019 Selections

The Book Club Pick #1

With the start of a new year, and the beginning of a book club I put some extra effort into the book selection for the first quarter of 2019. At the start of each year, I find a reboot and recharge are required. A book that can help guide you on that path is pretty fabulous too.

Malcolm Gladwell is a favorite author of mine. I enjoy his podcast, “Revisionist History” and thoroughly enjoyed reading Outliers and David and Goliath. Gladwell is a fantastic story teller. All of this led me to select Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.

This book focuses on how we think and how we make decisions. Have you ever wondered why some people seem to make such great decisions? Why people can make quick decisions and others need more time? I do wonder about these questions and how I personally make decisions. Whether in the work place or at home we all have decisions that we are constantly making.

So run to your library, order the book and start reading! We have until the end of March to finish the book. Pace yourself so you complete the book. I know there are those of you that will have the selection in a weekend and others of you will need the quarter. That will be me. The Book Club Pick#2

With the recent arrival of spring, the second selection of The Book Club is fiction. An easy read that will take us right into summer.

While looking for a book, I browsed a few well-known book lists. The New York Times Best Sellers List had this book at the top for 29 weeks! I knew this was a book, I needed to read with all of the attention it was getting.

Delia Owen’s debut novel, Where the Crawdads Sing is the next selection! Enjoy reading this murder mystery that I am told definitely holds your attention.

This novel will take us through spring. Enjoy this read throughout the months of April, May and June. RSVP to The Book Club (above) and you will receive emails during the quarter about the book.

The Book Club #3

Summer is the season for reading, which also calls for a novel. This selection has sat on my nightstand for quite some time and I have been eager to read it.

I hope that you are as excited as I am about the historical fiction selection for the month of July.

When a book has these kind of credentials, you know it’s a must read, Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, a New York Times Book Review Top Ten Book, National Book Award finalist, and more than two and a half years on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

The book selection, is All the Light Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. This book takes place during the time the Nazi’s occupied Paris. This is the story of two lives that intersect during the course of World War II.

This book will be just for the month of July. Another book will be chosen for August and September.

The Book Club #4

Our 4th selection is a memoir by Tara Westover. The popular book, Educated recalls Tara’s upbringing. While it differs significantly from how people were raised, it is intense and hard to put the book down. Tara was raised in a family of survivalists. She did not spend time in a formal classroom until she was at the age of seventeen. This book is definitely worth the read and is inspiring.

The Book Club #5

This book was written in the 1980s and has since become a popular series on Hulu. This month’s book selection is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. I chose this book because of all of the chatter regarding the series, so I wanted to read the book before watching the show.

The Book Club #6

I’m a lover of music and attending concerts, so this next selection, was a natural choice. Join me this month in reading, Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel. The book was written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The novel tells the fictional story of popular band in the 1970s that broke up at the height of their career. Pick the book up from your local library, listen to it on @audible or order it from good ‘ole @amazon. Can’t wait to hear what you think of the book

The Book Club #7

I just spent time browsing bookshelves in a local shop selecting a thriller for this month.
Join me this month in reading All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda. This is a novel that should keep us reading, when we should be doing other things. 😂

Join me in reading Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan for the last book selection of 2019. Susannah, a young reporter shares her experience as her brain is “on fire” which led to a medical diagnosis. Read this book before it becomes a movie!
