A Few of My Favorite Restaurants - San Diego
For many of us desert dwellers, we look forward to escaping the heat and traveling to San Diego. It’s definitely a treat to spend time in a great city that has so much to offer. When my family and I visit, we make it a point to visit our favorite restaurants, while also trying out new spots. Bookmark this post for your next visit to San Diego and try out these restaurant recommendations.
A Little Bit of Everything
Ballast Point: This is just the place to go if you enjoy craft beer and great food! What to Order: A beer of your choice with the fish tacos, Ballast Point Burger or the fried chicken sandwich
Hash House A Go Go: In order to eat at this restaurant, you’ll need to bring your appetite! This spot has an incredible breakfast. Everything I have tried at Hash House A Go Go is to die for, but if I had to narrow it down this is What to Order: Flapjacks, Chicken & Waffles, Crispy Potatoes
The Knotty Barrel: Beer and good food are the perfect mixture at this East Village spot. What to Order: The Knotty Burger and the Mac & Cheese
Point Loma Seafood: This restaurant serves fresh seafood daily. It’s been an iconic restaurant in San Diego for as long as I can remember. What to Order: The fish sandwich, fish taquitos or tacos will not disappoint!
Wheat & Water: If you’re in the Bird Rock area, place an order at Wheat & Water. What to Order: The wood fired pizzas are delicious!
Italian Food
Basic Bar/Pizza: This restaurant has been a go-to for over 10 years! the menu is minimal, but it is all you need for a meal that won’t disappoint. What to Order: Cheese or Marg Pie with the Basic Salad
Monzu: This quaint East Village restaurant is a gem! If you are wanting to escape to Italy, this food will take you there! What to Order: Bolognese tagliatelle, Gigli al Pesto and don’t forget the fresh focaccia bread!
Mexican Food
If you’ve been around for a bit, you may have noticed that Mexican food is my favorite! San Diego has delicious, authentic food that you will love.
El Indio: This Mexican restaurant has been in San Diego for close to 80 years! They definitely have figured out the way to make tasty food! What to Order: Call me crazy, but their tortilla chips are incredible. You can purchase large bags of chips to go. The combination plates are great, because you get a little bit of everything. The folded tacos, taquitos, flautas, and enchiladas are at the top of my list!
Los Dos Pedros: This is my favorite walk-up Mexican food restaurant from when I was a kid. I would walk to this restaurant and use my earnings from babysitting to eat the amazing cheese enchiladas. It’s been a long time since my babysitting days, and I still order from this authentic spot. What to Order: Rolled tacos and cheese enchiladas
The Taco Stand: The restaurant has 3 locations in San Diego. Stop by the location nearest you during your California visit. What to Order: The Baja and Nopal tacos with the Corn on the Cob
