A Few Stops on the Pacific Coast Highway

You can’t go wrong with planning a trip that allows for a drive along the Pacific Coast Highway. The drive along the California coast is truly beautiful and one you won’t forget. I’ve driven along the coast quite a few times and have loved each adventure.

The great part of traveling along the California coast, is that you can plan a trip for a specific section of the well known Pacific Coast Highway or make a road trip of the entire HWY 1. Of course, a road trip up the entire coast is unforgettable, it’s all about how much time you have to travel and what you have your heart set on seeing.

Over the weekend, we spent time in Huntington Beach and stopped at a few other great locations along the way. If you’re near the area, I highly recommend checking out these recommendations.

Where to Stay

If you’re like me, you want to stay near the ocean when you are in California. These hotels are just across the street from the Huntington State Beach Park.

The surfboard room keys make for a cute souvenir.

  • Pasea Hotel & Spa: This hotel is modern and definitely worth a visit. The beds are comfortable, the rooms have beautiful views with balconies and the service can’t be beat. The hotel restaurant, Tanner’s offers flavorful dishes. You’ll be sure to relax and make the most of your visit while staying at Pasea.

  • Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa: A few years ago, we stayed at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The rooms were spacious and the pools are very family friendly. This hotel has water slides which children and adults all enjoy. Not to worry, you’re just steps away from the sandy beach.

Where to Eat

Fortunately, the Pasea and the Hyatt Regency are located near several great restaurants. Just a few steps away is Pacific City, which has all you need for shopping and dining. There are numerous restaurants and everywhere we ate had wonderful food and service.

  • Lot 579 is a modern take on a food hall. Yes, you read that correctly. There are well known restaurants in the building. All with a little something different to offer. Burnt Crumbs had incredible food. The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and the Spaghetti Grilled Cheese were our favorites.

  • Simmzy’s is located in Pacific City as well. Simmzy’s is a pub with tasty burgers and sandwiches. If you’re a beer lover, this is the place for you.

  • Nick’s - If you head south on HWY 1 for a bit you’ll arrive in Laguna Beach. This is another beautiful spot along the coast. Nick’s is the place to eat! Incredible service once again and the food was fabulous. If you happen to stop for brunch, you can’t go wrong with ordering the El Jefe Breakfast Burrito or Rosendo’s Chilaquiles.

What to Do

Crystal Cove State Park

Crystal Cove State Park

Spending time at the beach is of course my number one recommendation! Besides that, there is a lot to see and do. Not too far down the coast is Newport Beach that has the Crystal Cove State Park. The park has walking paths, tide pools and a delightful restaurant on the beach, the Beachcomber Cafe. Make sure you arrive early, or expect to wait awhile to eat. If you have to wait, you can check out the tide pools and enjoy the beach. There are also renovated beach cottages from the 1940s that are available to rent.

I always enjoy a California getaway. Those trips are relaxing and serve as a reminder to appreciate the scenery. I hope you make the most out of your next California adventure!
