My Favorite Camping Products

Last weekend I went camping and had a great time enjoying the outdoors. I wanted to share my favorite products that I use while camping.

Cooking Essentials

Is it really a camping trip if you don’t cook some delicious meals? I sure do enjoy cooking and enjoying those meals in the outdoors.

  • I must say investing in a good camping stove (one that you feel comfortable using), is a must. Often times, fire restrictions prevent he use of a real campfire, so having a propane tank and cooking stove will allow you to cook your planned menu. A few years ago, I purchased this stove from Sportsman’s Warehouse. It has held up well and is really simple to use. I suggest purchasing a flattop griddle too. This allows you to have even more options for your menu planning.

  • I recommend having a separate set of cookware for your outdoor adventures. I keep our camping cookware in a storage bin in the garage. That way the items are easy to find when it is time to use them. A dutch oven is always a camping favorite!

  • A mess kit for each camper is a great way to decrease your paper usage. Wash dishes by hand and you’re ready to go for the next meal.

Sleeping Essentials

  • I’m a tent camper and I needed a smaller tent that was simple to put up, take down and store. I had gone to REI and was thankful for the helpful associate that assisted me with finding a tent that fit my needs. This tent fits 2 people, but I was quite cozy having the tent to myself. We do have a larger tent for when our family camps.

  • While I love camping, I do believe that you should sleep comfortably. I have used air mattresses in the past but wanted another option that required minimal set up. I used my REI Co-Op Rewards to purchase this mat. It was really comfortable! I also like how the mat folds up and is simple to store.

  • As you know, I am a big fan of Mexican Throw Blankets. They are a great weight and are great to use while stargazing, sitting by the campfire or another layer to use when sleeping. I have a few designs available in The Shop.

  • Sleeping bags are another camping essential that you just can’t go without. We have had our sleeping bags for quite some time, but I appreciate how they have held up and work well on those cold camping nights. If you’re in the market for a sleeping bag, I suggest this Coleman Kompact Sleeping Bag.

Other Essentials

  • Don’t forget to bring lights! A headlamp, lanterns and flashlights are great to bring. It’s always fun to pack glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces for people to wear as the sun goes down.

  • I am all about disconnecting from electronics, but it is great to have a phone in case of an emergency. Bring a backup battery for your phone.

  • Keep everyone entertained with a few games. Whether it’s a deck of cards, a frisbee, or other lawn game, this will give people an opportunity to get involved in a game together.

  • Bring a camping chair and a foldable table or two. The tables are great for food prep and serving meals.

  • Don’t leave home without bug spray, a simple first aid kit and last but not least an adventurous attitude.

Look into camping at a state park, KOA, or other campsite that has the desired amenities that meets your needs. Many campsites will have restrooms and often a fire pit. These things definitely make your camping trip easier. Camping in remote areas is a good time too, be prepared and make sure to let someone know where you are headed to camp.

Have a great time, relax and be flexible!
