As you know, I absolutely love traveling. So when my cousin called me and asked if I wanted to meet her in Atlanta for the weekend, I jumped at the opportunity to hang out with her and explore a new city. Prior to our trip we had made a few plans, but kept room for flexibility. We had so much fun in Atlanta, that I had to share the highlights with you. Check out recommendations for planning your next getaway to Atlanta!

First Things First

When planning a visit to Atlanta, you really need to think about which part of town you’d like to stay and all that you want to see. Atlanta is a highly populated city, which calls for a lot of traffic. Stay in an area that you plan to spend a lot of time exploring.

Where to Stay

During our visit, we stayed at the W Atlanta - Midtown and I really enjoyed it! The decor in the lobby sets the tone for the hotel. When booking, request a view of Piedmont Park. It’s a sight to see! The location of the W Atlanta - Midtown works well for getting to restaurants, bars and shopping.

Things to Do:

  • Take a walk and explore Piedmont Park.

  • Plan ahead and purchase a ticket to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. If you can time it right and visit during the tulip bloom, you’ll be in luck! It’s a sight to see. The gardens were in impeccable shape and I couldn’t get over the stunning flowers in bloom!

  • Take advantage of the good options for shopping. I really enjoyed all that Ponce City Market had to offer. They have an Anthropologie, which is always a favorite as well as a terrific mix of restaurants. There is truly something for everyone and I am a fan of the optional community seating.

  • If you’re feeling a little fancy, head on over to Buckhead. This is a ritzy part of Atlanta that offers shopping and phenomenal restuarants.

  • I highly suggest making a reservation at Storico Fresco Alimentari e Ristorante. This gem of a restaurant has homemade pasta and they thrive on keeping those old Italian recipes alive. I must say I loved their customer service! Without a reservation, it is unlikely that you’ll be able to get in to the restaurant, so plan ahead.

  • Listen to a little live music while enjoying a great meal at the Establishment. This spot has great energy and is just around the corner from the W Atlanta - Midtown.

I really did enjoy the mix of the south with an urban feel. There is so much more to see and do and I hope you add visiting Atlanta to your list. This is a great destination for a long weekend, whether you live close or far away. If you’ve visited Atlanta before, leave a note in the comments with what you enjoyed about your trip.
