The First 30 Days of Owning A Peloton Bike

IMG_8154.jpeg

Ok, let’s face it the Peloton marketing team definitely has done an excellent job. They continue to encourage people to purchase their products and it’s working!

We finally caved at Christmas and ordered a Bike+. At the time we ordered, we knew that we wouldn’t receive the bike until March. When it finally arrived, we hit a few bumps in the road. My poor family had to listen to my 3 week saga of receiving a replacement bike, since the original did not work. I know, in the scheme of things, it wasn’t a big deal. Once the bike was up and running, I was ecstatic! I was watching YouTube videos just to figure out how to clip in and out of the bike. Not to worry, I have it down now.

So, we are 30 days into having a functioning Peloton and I must say, I have drank the Kool-Aid and I love it! It has been a serious motivator for me to find time in the mornings or evenings to get in a workout. I wouldn’t call myself a competitive person, but gosh do I love that leaderboard! The stats are fabulous and it sure is fun to beat your personal record on a ride.

Over the weekend, I took a ride with my sister that lives in another state. It was so fun and such a great way to spend time together, even when you’re many miles away. This is a great feature that I am sure many enjoy as much as I do.

I must say that I am really impressed with the instructors. I am finding that I have a few favorites, but am trying out a variety of classes to get to “know” the instructors. The positivity and coaching along the way is such a bonus to a workout.

As a newbie to the Peloton world, I have a few tips. Check them out and hope they are useful to you whether or not you’re a new to the community.

Tips

A utility cart is great for keeping your workout accessories organized.

A utility cart is great for keeping your workout accessories organized.

  • I recommend purchasing a utility cart to organize your workout accessories. It’s great that the cart is on wheels and can easily be moved out of a room when needed.

  • Find instructors that you enjoy! Give the Mastering the Basics: Cycling Program a try so that you can become familiar with several instructors and see what is a good fit for you.

  • If you’re anything like me, the music for the class is what really matters. If the music is good, sure I’ll climb that hill and might even have a smile on my face while I do it. When I am not crazy about the music, it seems a little less motivating of a ride. I highly recommend scrolling through the Artist Series Collection. You’re sure to find an artist that you enjoy. Take my advice and take the Prince Ride with Ally Love and Emma Lovewell. It’s amazing!

  • Stay hydrated! Make sure to have enough water to drink during your workout.

  • Have fun! Make the most of your workout and enjoy your time on the bike. It’s great that you are making time for yourself and your health.

After 30 days, I have completed 36 workouts and it feels so good! If you are considering purchasing a Peloton or trying out the app, I highly recommend it.

If you’re part of the Peloton community, let’s go for a ride sometime. You can find me @desert_traveler.
